Each battle of 1066 begins with purchasing units. A default army is already selected for you, but you can modify the composition of your troops as long as you stay within budget. Click on icons to issue orders, then click the "Execute Commands" button to carry out your orders.

Moving your troops into position takes cunning, but the actual fighting in this strategy game is conducted by minigames. When fighting, press the proper arrow key at the correct time (similar to Dance Dance Revolution to do more damage to your enemies. Taunting is a good way to increase your morale and decrease that of your enemy; taunting is done by completing a typing minigame. Successfully launching ranged attacks is probably the most difficult feat in this strategy game. Use your mouse to set the angle, then click and drag to set the power. Release when you are ready to take your shot. It is possible to strike your own units with arrows, so be careful!
